Journal Your Way to Better Health

Is the Pen Mightier than the Fork

You know the Pen is mightier than the sword but is it also mightier than the fork?

Seems like the PEN is pretty mighty because writing down what you eat and when can help you reduce the amount of calories you consume each day!

What is a food journal?

A food journal is log of what you consume each day. Keeping track like this can be an effective strategy for improving your health, losing weight and improving your eating habits.
You may find…
…you’re more conscious about what you eat (since you’re writing it down).
…you discover other important aspects of your day, mood, even your environment that could be contributing to poor eating habits.

I use this as a short term strategy (kind of like an audit) to see what’s up and then I make adjustments. I usually find it’s helpful to journal for about a week.

You can journal on paper or use any number of free apps available for the iPhone or Android systems to track your food intake.

…and that’s pretty much it.

Tips for Effective Food Journaling

Here a few more tips to help you get the most from your food journal:
– be honest with yourself and write everything down.
– write it down as you eat it (don’t wait until later because you’ll forget things)
– be as specific as possible (note the size, what was on it etc…)
– include alcoholic beverages too!

So if you feel like you’re eating well but not making progress toward your goals trying writing it down. You might be surprised what you find out ðŸ™‚

It occurred to me that I do all of those things so I thought I’d share them with you here in this live video. Four Things! 1 – Move Even moderate exercise on a consistent basis can have a big impact on your health. Look for fun things to do on the weekend that keep you moving and active. I like bike riding, skiing, running, and disc golf! 2 – Get enough sleep Have a solid bed time to help ensure you get enough rest for your body to repair and refresh.
